Many parents are concerned when their children get concussions. The biggest question they ask is, how early should my child return to the sport? Doctors at Buffalo University are thinking they have found a way to find the approximet time of rest. In Missuriou there has been over 1,500 Highschool football players with concussions in the past year. Most of the players returned to the field in just two weeks. Concussions in sports has become a big topic and attention given to this topic has risen over last couple years. Time, the most important thing when getting a concussion. News ELA says "Doctors said they are even more concerned with “second-impact syndrome,” an often fatal condition that occurs when a player suffers a second concussion before the first has healed." If your returning too soon the result can be fatal and instead of waiting another week they push it and end up resulting in fatal circumstances. Another big reason players get second-impact syndrome is they are too dedicated to the sport and lie about how they feel. Worried parents often want to make sure that their child is ok but they may be lying to join sports again. At the University of Buffalo, doctors have made a "return to play treadmill test." The doctors at Buffalo say this "So, if they are still symptomatic from a concussion, but telling us they’re feeling better for example, we’ll put them on a treadmill test and the symptoms will come rushing back 10 times worse." This test will detect any symptoms still from the concussion and cut down on lying from the kids. The treadmill test might be the best way to detect any concussion like symptoms still. Me: How long do you think a teenager should wait to return from a typical concussion? Haiden: At least 2 weeks maybe more depending on the severity. Me: Concussions have been becoming fatal, do you think there should be stricter rules in sports pertaining to concussions? Haiden: No, the players are always gonna get hurt it's up to them to make the decision on when to return. In conclusion, teens in Highschool football have been getting more and more concussions of the past years. The biggest part when getting a concussion is fully understanding you are ok. If you are lying and still have symptoms from a concussion it's result can be fatal. He also plays football and is actually trying out for the football team at Citrus Springs Middle School next year. He has been to a real football game in the stands. He also likes watching football on tv to. He has said its very in to watch and the players are really agressive and he would love to play like they do one day. There are many parts to football like running the ball, passing, field goals, catching and touchdows. The are many positions you can play on offense like quarterback, running backs, wide receivers, guard, tackles and your center. You also have positions that you play on defense like ends, tackles, middle linebacker, outside linebackers, cornerbacks and your safety's. You get a spot picked on how you play and how hard you play. Not all people like football but football is a very famous sport in the U.S because of its aggression and how unexpected stuff can be like someone that never catches the ball catches the ball for the first time or the lowest ranked team scores the last touchdown in the game and beats the highest ranked team all of that can happen and that is what football is Works Cited http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/06/why-we-call-soccer-soccer/372771/ http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football_positions |
