It has been a long time debate on whether or not you are able to burn or desecrate your countries flag. Many say you should be able to burn your flag and many say you can't. Other countries have very strict rules with burning the flag. In Germany you can serve 5 years in prison from burning the flag.
About 61% of America says it should be banned. "The most main reason thought to burn the United States flag is for protesting government policy or religion" says http://www.debate.org/flag-burning/. If this is over a religion issue then why would someone want to burn the national symbol. The United States like many other countries doesn't have any laws to protect the flag. It is seen to be a type of free speech. In other countries such as Hong Kong or Germany you serve many years in prison for burning or harming the flag. Even on private property you are not aloud to do such a thing. In Australia a group called the "resistance"are now handing out flag burning kits.
Some people are wanting to burn the flag because of Christian Nationalism. "the very idea that the flag can be desecrated is derived from the belief that the flag is sacred" says Austin Cline agnosticism/atheism expert. Since there are no rules to burn or desecrate the American flag many people think it shows weakness in the American flag/ symbol. The flag is thought of to be the symbol of purity, bravery, and perseverance. To be burn such a historic symbol in our nation should be banned immediately.
Me: Are you for banning flag burning in the United States?
Robert: If it touches the ground I don't understand why you should burn it. No flag deserves to be burnt.
Me: In Germany the laws of burning a flag can result in prison for 5 years, do you think it should be the same here?
Robert: No you shouldn't be punished if you are then it should be a fine.
Me: Do you think this is a sign of free speech?
Robert: I don't think it's free speech because they are not speaking or reaching out to the government.
In conclusion, flag burning or desecrating our flag is a controversial topic around the world. More than half of our country thinks it should be illegal. Many other countries have rules toward flag burning. Germany and Hong Kong you can serve prison but in Australia you are only aloud to burn your countries flag.
